The Library will consider displays of educational, cultural, intellectual, civic or recreational nature on a first-come, first-served basis or as space is available. Persons or organizations wishing to put displays in the library need to complete, sign and submit a Display Application/Agreement form.

About the Library

Camp Verde Community Library (CVCL) houses a collection of 30,000 books, magazines, audiobooks, DVDs, STEM Kits, and more. CVCL’s membership in Yavapai Library Network gives patrons access to over one million titles. The Network maintains an online catalog and a mobile app searchable from the library or any Internet connected computer or device. Library patrons can monitor their accounts, renew online, place material on hold, and pick it up at Camp Verde Community Library. Items not available in Yavapai County may be requested through Interlibrary loan.

Online services include a variety of research and informational databases, thousands of downloadable eBook titles, eMusic, eMovies, and free WiFi from inside and adjacent to the building. The library has 18 Internet connected computers, dozens of laptops available for checkout, WiFi hotspots and cellular tablets for checkout, 5 catalog computers for public use, 6 computers for Teens, and early literacy computers/tablets for preschoolers to learn computer skills.

Check the Library Calendar for a schedule of programs for preschoolers through adults, including computer classes, writing groups, reading clubs, health programs, one-on-one assistance with technology, special programs and more. Reference and readers advisory assistance is available by phone or in person.

Most items owned by our library will be auto-renewed when due if there is no Hold on the item.

When a Hold item arrives for you, you have 10 days to pick it up. You have the option to be notified of available Holds by email, through a text message to your smartphone, or you can call the library at 928-554-8380 and ask if your item is here.

We are Camp Verde Community Library and we take the word "community" in our name seriously. We know that without our community of readers, thinkers, doers, and library-lovers we would not be here. At our 2015 Dirt Turning Ceremony (i.e. ground-breaking), longtime resident, Reverend John Jenkins, talked a bit about the foundational tenants of library services and the freedoms dear to all of us – the freedom to read, write, speak and think for ourselves. The freedom of religion. The freedom to learn, create and enjoy lawful gain. Removing these freedoms can destroy hope and shanghai opportunity. These are the principles that we proud to base our services upon and a big part of why we do what we do at Camp Verde Community Library

You can help put the community in our Community Library by getting involved. Make suggestions for programs, new resources, titles, series, etc. that you would like to see in our library. Give the Library Director, Kathy Hellman (928-554-8381) or Library Manager, Nicole Metz-Andrews (928-554-8389) a call or stop by and talk with us Monday through Saturday between 9:00a and 5:00p.

If you would like to suggest a book, movie, audiobook, ebook, or music simply fill out this Materials Request Form and submit it to the Librarian. We don't promise to purchase every request, but we will consider it carefully and let you know either way.

Reconsideration of Library Materials or Resources Policy 

PRINCIPLE(S):

The Camp Verde Community Library (LIBRARY) endorses the following intellectual freedom statements:

• Freedom to Read (American Library Association)
• Freedom to View (Educational Film Library Association)
• Library Bill of Rights (American Library Association)

Preference for library materials or resources by patrons is a personal decision. Individuals who have a question about the selection of materials or resources in the library collection are referred to the LIBRARY’s Collection Development Policy.

Responsibility for library materials selected by minors and adolescents resides with their parents or legal guardians.

 PRACTICE:

1. The selection of paper and electronic materials or resources and library programs included in the LIBRARY collection or calendar is delegated to the Librarian. That selection may be further delegated by the Librarian to professional staff as deemed appropriate. The selection of materials and resources shall be within the discretion of these individuals informed by the Library Bill of Rights, the Freedom to Read Statement, the Freedom to View Statement, and the LIBRARY’s Collection Development Policy.
2. Patrons may submit a request for reconsideration of library materials or resources by completing a Request for Review of Library Materials or Resources form and submitting it to the Librarian.
3. The Librarian shall review the Request form with the professional staff to whom selection of materials, resources or programs is delegated as the Librarian deems appropriate. The decision from this review shall be communicated in writing to the patron within thirty (30) days.
4. In the event the patron is dissatisfied with the decision of the Librarian, the patron may request in writing to have the matter reviewed by a committee. Any such request must be in writing, received by a committee member within fourteen (14) days after the patron received the Librarian’s decision. Such request must set forth in detail the basis of the disagreement with the Librarian’s decision and shall not be considered confidential.

The Committee is the group responsible for reviewing reconsideration cases and consists of the following members:

• Library Director
• Town Manager
• Recording Secretary
• Town Council Member
• Member of the Community (Requester)

The Requester and the recording secretary do not vote.

The Requester submitting the Request for Review of Library Materials and Resources form will be referred to the Collection Development Policy.

Once the written request for review has been completed, signed and turned in by the Requester, the matter will be submitted to the Committee. The specific library material outlined in the written request form will be circulated to committee members prior to the review date.

The Committee will set up a hearing date, not to exceed thirty (30) days from the date the form is filed by the Requester and will notify the Requester in writing of such date, time and place not less than ten (10) working days prior to the scheduled hearing. The hearing between the Committee and the Requester will serve to formally review the material in question. The hearing will be posted and conducted in compliance with the Open Meeting Law.

At the hearing, the Requester may present information pertaining to the request. A final determination by vote of the Committee may be taken at the end of the hearing or at such time as the hearing may be continued. The determination on the request shall be at the sole discretion of the Committee, informed by the LIBRARY’s Collection Development Policy and the Intellectual freedom statements referred to at the beginning of this policy. Availability of materials and/or resources shall not be affected until a final vote of the Committee is taken.

The results of the hearing will be summarized on the Result of Hearing Form and signed at the conclusion of the hearing by the Requester and the Committee members.  

The Result of Hearing Form and the minutes of the proceedings will be kept on file at the Library and in files of the Town of Camp Verde.

How do I...

…find out if the library owns a particular item?

Use the online catalog to search for particular items. The catalog contains titles from over 50 libraries in Yavapai County and lets you place holds and manage your library account.

…place a hold on an item?

New and popular items are frequently checked out and may have waiting lists. To place your name on a waiting list for an item, find it in the online catalog, then click the ‘Place Hold’ button and enter the required information.

…find a list of local authors?

Search for local authors in the online catalog. Click on the right arrow to see additional tabs just below the search box. The Local Author button returns a list of books by Verde Valley authors.

…renew an item?

You can renew items currently checked-out on your library account. Click on SIGN IN from the HOME screen. Login with your 14-digit library card number and PIN (the last 4 digits of your phone number).

Here you have an Account Summary. You can click the boxes to see a list of items you have checked out, overdue, holds, or ready for pickup, plus much more. Click the ‘Checked Out’ button to begin the renewal process. Here you can choose to renew all or individual items. Some items may not be renewed. Please call 928-554-8383 to speak to a librarian if you have any problems or questions about renewing.

…get a library card?

A free Yavapai Library Network card is available to all Yavapai County residents with a photo ID and proof of residency. To get a library card, please bring a government or school issued photo ID and a piece of mail addressed to you within the last 30 days.

Camp Verde Community Library has Internet computers for public use and room for people to use their own devices. In addition, laptops, Chromebooks, and tablets are available for checkout. Computers are available on a first-come-first-served basis. For more information see Public Computers.
